"Dear Friends,
Our father, Henry Smith, passed away this afternoon in Lapeer of heart disease. His passing was quick and he was comfortable and at peace. We would appreciate it if you would help provide the following information to our many friends in Gaylord and elsewhere.
There will be a viewing at Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Lapeer on Wednesday, January 9, from 5 to 8 pm. The funeral will be Thursday, January 10, at 11 am, also at Muir Brothers. Burial will be at the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Lapeer following the service. Muir Brothers is located at 1021 South Main Street (M-24), Lapeer, MI 48446. Their telephone number is (810) 664-8111.
Dad requested that we celebrate his life on this occasion. The family will conduct the service by relating stories and anecdotes describing our > upbringing by this remarkable man and his lifelong partner, our mother. We would greatly appreciate hearing any stories from his students and friends that we could share with others at that time.
He fully enjoyed two fulfilling careers, education and volunteer work. Participating in the education of over 10,000 young people gave him great satisfaction, and in retirement he found further enjoyment helping people during difficult times as a volunteer at the local hospital. In lieu of  flowers he would be deeply touched by memorial donations in his name to the Physical Medicine Department at the Lapeer Regional Medical Center; details can be obtained from Muir Brothers Funeral Home."
