For the first few years after graduation Carl worked in the oil and gas fields for Northern Tank Truck out of Waters. He married Mary Ralston and they lived in the Gaylord-Elmira area. They had two children; a daughter and a son. Carl moved to Manistique in the upper peninsula in the late seventies. There he did mechanic work at a small garage that he owned until he retired. Carl passed away in March of 2005 of brain cancer. He was sixty-one years old.
