Donald Lee Fitzek, age 78, passed away on Friday, November 22, 2024, at Aspen Ridge in Gaylord. Don was born in Gaylord on January 6, 1946, to Frank and Cecilia (Krause) Fitzek.

Don was a lifelong resident of Gaylord and graduated from Gaylord High School in 1965. He excelled in basketball and along with his teammates, was inducted into the Otsego County Hall of Fame. He was a talented bowler, baseball player, and played slow pitch until he was 44 years old. He was involved in the Eagles Club, coached Gaylord Little League, and assisted in many school activities while his kids were growing up. Don was also a member of the Catholic Church where he served as an altar boy when he was young. He was an avid deer hunter, never missing Opening Day since he was 10 years old. He also never missed a Lions game.

Don had a long career in the oil and gas industry, working many years for Shell Production, Quicksilver, and as a well analyst for Breitburn Exploration, retiring in 2010.

In 1969, Don married Linda Sue Babcock, and recently celebrated 55 years of marriage. After retirement, Don and Linda spent many winters in Panama City Beach, FL, where Don and his buddies played golf several days a week.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lyle, Harold, Roy, Leonard (Red), Kenneth, and Jerry; and sister, Florence Bickham. Don was an amazing husband, dad, and grandpa (Bompa) and loved by all.

He is survived by his wife, Linda; children, Tara (Roger) Williams of Evanston, IL, Tonya (Tracey) Weber of Brighton, and Brennan (Katie) Fitzek of Gaylord; grandchildren, Greta, Addison, Reagan, Hunter, Emma, and Parker, as well as many nieces and nephews.
