Glen Catt - 2000 Biography

Hopefully, the majority of our classmates will put together a note like this. Even though we have been pretty faithful in getting together for reunions, we still seem to migrate to the same little groups that we once hung around with in school, so we do miss out on the opportunity of getting to know how each others lives have traveled through time these past number of years. I sincerely look forward to reading about everyone's journey to this point.

Jeanne and I have been married 26 1/2 years. She is a Kalkaska-via-Ferris State graduate. Our family includes: Glen B. (34) and his family, Gwen, Olivia (9) and Tanner (5); Christopher (32); Travis (22) and Michelle (20). Glen B. and Travis live in Gaylord, Christopher captains/charters his 42' sailboat (currently in New Zealand) and Michelle just finished her sophomore year at Taylor University in Upland, Indiana. Jeanne and I have had a ranch 7 miles southeast of Millersburg, MI (between Onaway and Rogers City) since 1990. It consists of 1500 acres and has 7 miles of 10 foot fence around it. On the ranch, we raise trophy White-tailed deer, booking hunters from around the country for fall hunting. Likewise, we have a White-tailed deer handling facility where we currently have about 200 deer and are expecting about 175 fawns by the first of July. At these facilities, we work on improving the genetics of the animals, including artificial insemination of the does with straws of semen from bucks around the country along with that which we take from our own breeder bucks. We are currently building a log home on the ranch and expect to be making that our main residence this year about Christmas time.

We have also recently purchased a home in Montana, near the Yellowstone River. We have always enjoyed traveling to the Western, mountainous states and look forward to traveling between our homes and enjoying our friends and family.

Along with my involvement in our family, our church and my career, my only real outside interest has been in hunting...I love to hunt, but I have tried to be careful not to allow it to become a priority over the other three things in my life. My hunts have taken me to each of the Western states (most of them multiple times, the Northwest Territories, Zimbabwe, Tanzania (twice) and Alaska (four times). In fact, I just returned from a hunt in Alaska three days prior to writing this, where I was blessed with taking a huge 10'1" Brown Bear. I am realizing that I'm starting to get a little old to be sleeping in those little tents and tracking around those mountains...they seem to get larger and steeper all the time.

Okay, so what's been the big change in my life since the '65 graduation? In the fall of 1980, Jeanne finally convinced me to start attending church. The following May, I accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Savior and life as I knew it before has never been the same. The peace and assurance that has accompanied this relationship has allowed my eyes to be open to what God truly wants me to be doing with this life He has given me. With my commitment to Him, I was able to feel His commitment to me and thus obtain a better understanding of where I came from, why I'm here and where I am going. I feel blessed that each of my family has also accepted Jesus as their Lord. I know some of you that read this will be right in tune to what I'm talking about. For those of you that aren't or aren't sure if you are... I challenge you to start considering where you want to go after this life. There are only two choices and if you don't make a choice... you won't have one.

Life is good, but how we live it is our own choice. At this point in my brief life's story, I wish I had something truly profound to share with you, but at last, I don't so I will just challenge you to, "Make it a great life and enjoy the relationships of all your family and friends around you". May God truly bless your lives!
